Rain tips
  • Pack rain gear. One of those cheap ponchos (or heck, even a garbage bag) will work fine – whatever you wear is going to get totally dirty anyway. Another advantage to wearing a baggy poncho or garbage bag is that paintballs will tend to bounce off it.
  • Avoid cotton. It wicks away water, and your precious body heat with it, leaving you shivering and miserable. Instead wear the most high-tech, water-repellant stuff you can bear to have get permanently stained or torn.
  • Cover your head. This isn’t mom saying you’ll catch your death out dear with a wet head; this is practical advice – if you don’t cover your noggin, water and mist will drip down your hair and into your mask.
  • Bring paper towels. Your mask lens, even a great thermal one, will most likely fog up. That can be quickly (if only temporarily) fixed with a quick wipe of a paper towel. Remember to NEVER remove your mask during game play. If you simply must clear your mask in the middle of the game, turn your back towards the action, (you will be a sitting duck) and slip the paper towel under the mask while lifting it as little as possible.
  • Mind your feet. Regular sneakers will get soaked and provide no traction. Go with cleats or boots instead.
  • Wear gloves. Wet soggy hands get cut more easily, but this can be easily prevented with fishing gloves or the like.
  • Cover anything related to your paintballs – put plastic wrap over your hopper, put your pods in shopping bags, etc. Moisture WILL warp paintballs.
  • Cover your ported barrel with a plastic wrap and rubber bands, or use your unported barrel.
  • Keep your squeegee in a water-proof baggie.
  • Bring a change of clothes. This is a good idea whenever you play paintball, but it’s particularly essential when it’s raining. Your playing clothes will be completely muddy and wet, and you will feel instantly better the moment you get into something dry.
  • Rain or shine, happy paintballing!
